The University of Maine College of Education and Human Development invites applications for a two-year, fixed-length non-tenure track Lecturer in Curriculum/Social Studies, effective September 1, 2012.

Responsibilities: The College seeks candidates whose educational and experiential background prepares them to (1) teach graduate courses in curriculum theory and curriculum policy analysis; (2) teach undergraduate/graduate courses in social studies education; (3) supervise student research; and (4) engage in an agenda of scholarship. Additional functions include regular faculty responsibilities such as student advising, program development, and committee work.

Qualifications: The position requires (1) an earned doctorate (Ed.D or Ph.D.) by date of hire in teacher education/curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in social studies education or a closely related field; (2) demonstrated evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching including the use of technology; (3) quantitative and/or qualitative research skills reflected in a clearly articulated programmatic research agenda; (4) evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds; (5) strong interpersonal and written communication skills; and (6) evidence of a commitment to preparing pre-service and in-service educators for diverse student populations in various institutional settings. Experience is also preferred in the following areas: teaching in public schools, knowledge of standards-based curriculum, and evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration.
