The Department of History at Connecticut College invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Native American History to begin July 1, 2022. The Department seeks a scholar of critical race studies and ethnicity who focuses on Native Studies in early North American history, early American history, or US history in the 19th century with an emphasis on local histories, Native history, or comparative indigeneity. All thematic approaches are welcome, with particular interest in gender and sexuality and/or environmental history. The successful candidate would regularly offer courses in Early American history along with other courses in their interests, expertise, and research areas. The College seeks scholars and teachers who can help reveal histories of settler colonialism and resistance in New England and the rest of North America.
Connecticut College has an American Studies program focused on race and ethnicity and the role of the United States in the world. History would expect a new hire in Native American History to continue the tradition of contributing to American Studies.
We seek a colleague who is an excellent teacher and enthusiastic about working closely with students in a liberal arts context. At the time of official appointment, candidates must have a Ph.D. in History or other related fields such as American Studies, Native Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Environmental Studies, with demonstrable expertise with historical research methodology. After a first year of teaching 2-2, professors teach 3-2 (5 courses total in the 2-semester academic year). Salary is competitive.
