POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Visual and Material Culture Studies Program at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track interdisciplinary position in Indigenous Material Culture with a preferred subspecialisation in Repatriation Studies and/or Indigenous Archeology perceived in a Canadian or global context. The successful candidate will be expected to teach five semester courses at the undergraduate level yearly, including a section of VMCS 1301 Introduction to Material Culture, and design courses in their areas of specialisation or interest. The candidate is also expected to develop a dynamic, independent, and productive agenda of research, creative activity and/or engaged community work. The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor and will commence on 1 July 2023 (subject to budgetary approval).
 
The committee respects and honours the significance of Indigenous education and its function within the diversity of career pathways that contribute to a candidate’s growth as an Indigenous scholar. The candidate’s experience working ethically in partnership with Indigenous communities and demonstrated success in securing funding will be considered key assets. Candidates who have undertaken an Indigenous path to education or a path through academia, as well as those who have pursued a combination of Indigenous/academic paths, will be considered for the position.

i) a letter of application
ii) a curriculum vitae
iii) a statement that identifies the candidate as an Indigenous person, as expressed by their relationship to an Indigenous community or their personal or family narrative describing their past and current relationship to such a community
iv) a teaching dossier (i.e. teaching philosophy, sample course outlines, and if available, evidence of teaching effectiveness)
v) a statement of research interests or creative practice
vi) a relevant sample of related work in research, creative practice, and/or community engagement; non-academic publications in Indigenous languages can also be included
vii) contact information of two referees
viii) one reference letter from an Elder, Indigenous leader, or Indigenous community/ research partner.
