The Institute for Studies in Transdisciplinary Engineering Education and Practice (ISTEP) in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream appointment in the area of engineering entrepreneurship. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an expected start date of Jan. 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter.

 

Applicants are expected to have a PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree, in engineering, business, engineering education, or a related field, at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate must have a proven record of excellence in starting, managing, and growing technology-based companies or a demonstrated record of excellence in related research and teaching.

 

We seek candidates with outstanding expertise in engineering entrepreneurship whose research, experience, and/or teaching will complement and enhance ISTEP’s existing strengths.  Areas of application for the candidate’s research may include but are not limited to, financing of technology-based start-ups, barriers to entrepreneurship for female founders and other marginalized groups, socio-technical entrepreneurship, entrepreneurially driven technological innovation, entrepreneurship within engineering contexts, conceptualization of innovation and entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and corporate spin outs, entrepreneurial mindset, or entrepreneurship education for engineers and computer scientists.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is a desirable qualification.

 

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research or creative professional work through a compelling statement of research vision, strong endorsements by referees of high standing, publications in leading journals or significant conferences, impactful patents, awards, and accolades. Other evidence of professional accomplishments or noteworthy entrepreneurial activities that have contributed to their profile in their field will also be considered, such as a strong record of starting, managing, and growing technology-based companies.

 

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, a teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below), or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, such as performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, excellent presentations, facilitating workshops or seminars, or mentoring of students; as well as strong letters of reference. ISTEP is especially interested in individuals with a demonstrated commitment to innovative undergraduate teaching and engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels.
