The Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba invites applications for the role of Associate Dean, Indigenous, to commence 1st July 2022, or as suitably agreed with the successful candidate. The successful candidate will also be appointed as a faculty member in a suitable department in the Faculty of Arts.
The creation of the Associate Dean, Indigenous portfolio is part of the Faculty of Arts' response to the relevant priorities outlined in the University of Manitoba Indigenous Senior Leadership Report, the University's strategic plan, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action.
Responsibilities 
Specific Tasks Associated with the Portfolio
-Create supports and foster a sense of community for all those wanting to learn to appropriately and meaningfully Indigenize and decolonize pedagogies, curricula, policies, procedures, and processes across the Faculty.
-Provide guidance and resources to academic staff related to their teaching, research and curriculum development (cultural learning, Indigenous methodologies, ceremonial protocol, etc.).
-Work collaboratively with the Associate Deans, unit Heads/Coordinators, and the Manager of Student Services on issues related to student discipline, progression, and academic and non-academic misconduct, mental health concerns, or other community concerns as they arise.
-Act as a supporter of, and advocate for, Indigenous students and Indigenous student initiatives in the Faculty of Arts.
-Work across the Faculty of Arts to develop and enhance our cultural and historical understanding among Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, faculty and staff.
-Collaborate with the Associate Dean, Research, and the Research Grants Facilitator in the review of grant applications that contain Indigenous content and facilitate potential research collaborations beyond the Faculty.
-Collaborate with the Associate Dean, Research to inform appropriate research engagements with Indigenous communities and research activities that affect Indigenous communities for faculty and students in the Faculty of Arts.
-Represent humanities and social science interests in research protocols such as research ethics processes at the University of Manitoba and research protocols in individual Indigenous communities (including research done by graduate students).
-Liaise with the Vice-President (Indigenous), other Associate Deans/Faculty Leads (Indigenous), and other Indigenous offices/staff in the university on pan-institutional initiatives including strategic planning.
-Develop support groups for Indigenous academic staff, support staff, and students within the Faculty of Arts.
-Develop and implement training opportunities for staff to build Indigenous literacy and cultural competence.
-Serve as the Dean's delegate on various Faculty of Arts committees, including the Indigenous Content Committee, University committees, and ceremonies or events (on and off campus).
-Other duties that may be assigned by the Dean.
Qualifications 
The ideal candidate will have a record of research/scholarly achievement, academic leadership, and well developed organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. They will have credentials as an educator and researcher consistent with an appointment to a tenured position as an associate or full professor with position responsibilities including undergraduate teaching in one or more delivery modes, research and service-related activities.  They will have a demonstrated interest in building the Faculty of Arts and the ability to work collaboratively with the Dean, the other Associate Deans, staff in the Dean's office, and others in the Faculty.   The starting salary will reflect the qualification and experience of the chosen candidate.
