Indigenous and Canadian History Position
The Department of History at the University of Winnipeg acknowledges that we live and work in the ancestral and traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Anishininew, Assiniboine, Cree, Dakota, Dene, and the heartland of the Métis nation.
We invite applications for a tenure-track position in Indigenous and Canadian History at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2022, subject to budgetary approval. The successful candidate will have or be close to completing a PhD in Indigenous or Canadian History or a directly related field. This position is designated for Indigenous persons only.
The successful candidate will be capable of teaching Indigenous history courses focused on the Canadian context, as well as Canadian history courses informed by Indigenous history. A new hire who can contribute in both areas will help the department meet the high-demand for Indigenous Course Requirement (ICR) courses, while also contributing to the Canadian area in a way that is consistent with our department’s commitment to Indigenization.
The successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in academic life through contributions to research, teaching and service. The candidate is expected to have a scholarly record and a developed research agenda with strong commitment to our student body with respect to teaching and research. The candidate will perform administrative duties and engage in committee work.

The NAISA logo was designed by Jonathan Thunder, a Red Lake Ojibwe painter and digital artist from Minnesota. NAISA members inspired by canoe traditions among their own people sent examples to Thunder, who designed the logo with advice from the NAISA Council. The color scheme was chosen to signify those Indigenous peoples who are more land-based and do not have canoe traditions.
