Job Description
Responsibilities
    • Teach introductory and midlevel courses in comparative race and ethnic studies in addition to upper-level ethnic studies seminars.
    • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of Ethnic Studies.
    • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities and other professional contributions to the field of Ethnic Studies including the WSU Ethnic Studies program
    • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising with a particular emphasis on supporting marginalized student populations.
    • Provide service to the university and community, which may include the program, department, college, university and greater intellectual or other communities
Required Qualifications
Minimum:
    • Earned PhD in Ethnic Studies or a closely related field by date of appointment.
    • Experience teaching college-level courses in Ethnic Studies and/or on U.S. experiences of race
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
    • Research experience focusing on U.S. experiences of race, especially using a diaspora/immigration/transnationalism framework
    • Ability to teach Ethnic Studies Courses in one or more related subfields, including African American Studies, Chican@/Latin@ Studies, and American Indian/Native American Studies
    • Critical intersectional approaches to teaching and/or research
    • Institutional and/or community diversity/equity/inclusion service and/or teaching experience
    • Racial justice community/institutional/academic discipline engagement and leadership service experience
    • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and support for student development

    • The WSU Ethnic Studies Program is currently housed in the Department of Political Science, Public Administration, and Ethnic Studies, and has 30+ undergraduate minors
    • Typical WSU teaching assignments consist of four courses per semester (24 credits/year), with a mix of upper- and lower-level undergraduate courses.
    • Successful candidates will need to earn tenure at WSU regardless of rank at hire.
