Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor – Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice

 

Position Description

   

The interdisciplinary Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (DWGS) at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications from qualified candidates specializing in reproductive health, rights, and justice. The appointment will be at either the tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate rank, to begin Fall semester of academic year 2025-26. The search is open to social scientists and humanities scholars employing all research methods, whether qualitative or quantitative. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is informed by transnational feminisms, racial justice, trans studies, disability studies, queer theory, and/or carceral studies. In addition to those working on birthing, pregnancy, and abortion, we are interested in scholars who use reproductive justice frameworks as a foundation for studying reproductive cancers and diseases, STDs, gender-affirming surgeries, assistive reproductive technologies, family surveillance, eugenic legacies and practices, and/or theories of bodily autonomy and dependence. The University of Texas is home to a broad interdisciplinary coalition of scholars in this area, providing opportunities to work in community with subject-area experts both inside the department and across campus. Duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service. Teaching will include servicing DWGS’s core curriculum as well as classes in specialized research areas.

 

Qualifications

 

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies or a related field by the time of appointment. To be hired at the rank of tenured Associate Professor, applicants must have a record of scholarly or creative achievement commensurate with rank.
