Wake Forest University acknowledges and honors the land on which it now resides and the land on which the original campus resided. This land served for centuries as a place for exchange and interaction for Indigenous peoples, specifically Saura, Catawba, Cherokee, and Lumbee in its current location and Shakori, Eno, Sissipahaw, and Occaneechi in its original location. Today, Wake Forest continues to be a place of learning and engagement for Indigenous students, faculty, and staff, regionally, nationally, and globally.

The NAISA logo was designed by Jonathan Thunder, a Red Lake Ojibwe painter and digital artist from Minnesota. NAISA members inspired by canoe traditions among their own people sent examples to Thunder, who designed the logo with advice from the NAISA Council. The color scheme was chosen to signify those Indigenous peoples who are more land-based and do not have canoe traditions.
