Visiting Assistant Professor – Photography

The School of Art + Design invites applicants for a non-tenure full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Photography, to begin in Fall 2023. This is a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position in the photography area to begin Fall 2023. We are seeking applications from candidates who possess an understanding of the technical, historical, critical, and theoretical aspects of photography — analogue and digital — combined with awareness of the ways in which the discipline is evolving. The successful candidate will be capable of teaching digital and analog photography to undergraduate students in a Non-Majors lecture as well as Fundamental and Intermediate studios, as well as participate in MFA critiques.

Basic Qualifications

1. Terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in studio art.
2. Evidence of successful college-level teaching;
3. Ability to teach digital capture, post-production workflow, Adobe Creative Suite, and fine art inkjet printing; analog film and chemical printing processes; and
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially.
 

Additional Qualifications

1. Experience with maintaining a traditional film darkroom and digital photography computer and print lab;
2. Experience in studio lighting, large format photography, and/or alternative processes;
3. Knowledge of critical theory, contemporary issues, and history of photography;
4. Record of exhibitions and/or projects that incorporate photography-based work; and
5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.

The NAISA logo was designed by Jonathan Thunder, a Red Lake Ojibwe painter and digital artist from Minnesota. NAISA members inspired by canoe traditions among their own people sent examples to Thunder, who designed the logo with advice from the NAISA Council. The color scheme was chosen to signify those Indigenous peoples who are more land-based and do not have canoe traditions.
