The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a probationary or continuing Senior Instructor position in the School of Nursing. The start date is negotiable, but the ideal start date is April 1, 2024. This position is focused on teaching in the MScN Family Nurse Practitioner Program, and can be situated at any campus: Prince George, South-Central (Quesnel), Peace River-Liard (Fort St. John) or Northwest (Terrace). If situated outside of Prince George, the successful candidate will be required to travel to Prince George scheduled on-campus workshops with students up to three times a year.

Nursing education at UNBC includes the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NBNP) in Fort St. John and Prince George offered over 5 consecutive semesters, a collaborative 4-year Northern Collaborative Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NCBNP) offered in conjunction with the College of New Caledonia (Prince George and Quesnel) and Coast Mountain College in Terrace, an MScN degree with thesis or project options, an MScN (Family Nurse Practitioner) degree, and a Certificate in Rural Nursing. The Senior Instructor position will assist with expansion and delivery of the MScN-FNP program. The MScN-FNP program combines theoretical and clinical coursework delivered over 8 semesters.

The Senior Instructor position is weighted to teaching; the successful candidate will teach theory, lab, and clinical courses in areas where they hold subject-matter and/or practical expertise. The position contributes to curriculum, course development, classroom and lab evidence-informed teaching and student assessment across the MScN-FNP program. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in multiple modalities, to develop and maintain up to date teaching pedagogies, and organize practica in partnership with clinical placement teams.

The Senior Instructor is expected to engage in continuing professional development and scholarly activities, along with service to the University, community and profession.

The successful applicant for the position will hold and maintain an active practicing family nurse practitioner license with BCCNM. A PhD preferred, along with a minimum of five years practice experience as a NP in primary care. Experience in clinical or theoretical teaching is an asset, particularly in the areas of older adult, multimorbidity, mental health, women’s health or rural health. Evidence of scholarship and teaching excellence is required. The successful applicant must demonstrate a high level of communication and interpersonal and teamwork skills, to be able to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and health service agencies. Experience in evaluation or curriculum design is an asset. Travel to other campuses and northern communities may be necessary, and a valid BC driver’s license is required.

Salary

The salary for this position will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant qualifications and experience as per the UNBC Faculty Association Collective Agreement. The annual salary range for this position is expected to be from $83,100 to $133,806. Please refer to the link below to the Collective Agreement (Article 48) for more compensation information:
