Visiting Assistant Professor in Ethnic Studies

The property

We are seeking candidates who are generalists in Ethnic Studies and are qualified to primarily teach “Introduction to Ethnic Studies.” Ideal candidates will also have a specialty in Native American and Indigenous Studies for occasional courses as offered in our Indigenous Studies Minor (https://catalog.colostate.edu/general-catalog/colleges/liberal-arts/ethnic-studies/indigenous-studies-minor/#requirementstext).

We invite instructors who are engaging with teaching materials that provide original ways of applying an ethnic studies framework to current theories, social justice phenomena and activism.

The applicant must demonstrate a knowledge base for pedagogies and epistemologies in Ethnic Studies; potential for excellence in service and outreach; and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Qualified applicants have the potential to teach an upper division course within the Indigenous Studies minor.

Successful applicants are expected to build upon our departmental strengths using interdisciplinary and engaged scholarship. Evidence of interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduates from underrepresented student populations is highly desired.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses per semester.

The NAISA logo was designed by Jonathan Thunder, a Red Lake Ojibwe painter and digital artist from Minnesota. NAISA members inspired by canoe traditions among their own people sent examples to Thunder, who designed the logo with advice from the NAISA Council. The color scheme was chosen to signify those Indigenous peoples who are more land-based and do not have canoe traditions.
